Make Your Ball Last: Inflation and Care

From two-stage inflation to storage temperature, the small habits that keep a ball performing for years.

Almost every ball that fails early was over-inflated on day one. The shell needs time to stretch, and pushing it to full diameter straight out of the box permanently thins the material.

Two-stage inflation

  • Stage one: inflate to about 80% of the stated diameter
  • Wait 24 hours at room temperature
  • Stage two: top up to full diameter

Measuring without a tape

Mark the target diameter on a wall with two pieces of tape, then roll the ball up to the wall. When it touches both marks, stop. This is more reliable than judging by feel — a ball feels full long before it is.

Storage and cleaning

Mild soap and a damp cloth. No solvents, no alcohol wipes — both attack the plasticiser and leave the shell chalky. Store out of direct sun and well away from radiators, and keep it off rough concrete, which sands the texture off in a season.
